ThumbTacks allows you to fully unleash your iPod's secret potential* recording. It couldn't be simpler to use! Push your Thumbtack into your 3.5mm headphone jack and your iPod will automatically turn into a voice recorder. So next time when you need to record class dictations, office meetings, or even covering the next big story, don't forget to bring along your ThumbTack. One big consideration when designing Thumbtacks was its tiny size. But, equally important to us was the microphone quality. Thumbtacks excels in comparison to similar products which are larger and bulkier. We spent considerable time testing a multitude of microphones in different acoustic environments to ensure we had the best quality micro-microphone of it category. Excellent Sounding Mic
I see some negative reviews here because the mic does not work with Skype. This is because inputing a mic into the iPod Touch headphone jack disables the speaker. I have to say it's not the mic fault, but rather the user who didn't research what the mic does. It is only for inputting audio into recording aps. If you want to use it as a phone rig, then you have to look at an adapter or a mic/headphone combo since you will lose the speaker output on the ipod. That said, I would like to say that this is an excellent mic. I'm am an old recording buff and have had tons of mics. I'm am very, very pleased with the audio this mic records. It sounds as clear and natural as condenser mics costing four or five times as much. I was really very surprised by its recording capabilities - as I mainly bought it to jot down little audio notes to myself, not thinking I'd be getting really nice fidelity along the way. The makers say they auditioned a bunch on condenser mic before settling on the one in the Thumbtack and I believe it. When used close to the speaker, it provides amazing sound for the price. Bravo guys for making such a cool-looking, good-sounding mic.
Works Perfect for what it's intended for!!
Thats a good idea below to try but I do not believe it advertises that it will work for that. This Mic is really easy to use, literally plug it in and it works! I believe it will also work with the iPhone 3G if you download the free iTalk app.
If you at all need a mic and want something that works well and is cool, this is it!
Does just what is says it does
This is a great little thing. Does just what it says it does, and does it pretty well. I like the design. The thumb tac/push pin shape is clever and fun, and makes it easy to grip to plug in or unplug. I particularly appreciated the packaging--almost none. Also clever and very green.
I think the mic on the Chill Pill Rapcap is a little more sensitive. WAY too much packaging, though!!
I bought both. I'm sure I'll use both. I'd use this one, if i were dictating something at close range, where the extra sensitivity wouldn't matter (might actually be a deterrent). I'd make sure I had the other one plugged in, if I had to record at a distance.
If I had to choose (and they are so reasonably priced, I didn't feel I had to), I'd go with the rapcap for the better quality sound--eventhough the packaging really irritates me.
