  • Brand: Sony
  • Model: ECMT6
  • Dimensions: 3.80" h x 1.00" w x 8.80" l, .4 pounds

The ECMT6 from Sony is a clip-on lavaliere microphone that enables hands-free recording, perfect for speeches, lectures, presentations, and more. An omni-directional mic, the ECMT6 picks up sound from all directions, ensuring that speech is easily discernable even if the placement of the mic changes during use. The mini plug is gold-plated for maximum conductivity, while its L-shape helps ensure that it doesn't come disconnected during use.

Small and unobtrusive, the ECMT6 weighs just 0.71 ounces, while the 3.3-foot long (from mic to plug) cord lets you position the mic a reasonable distance from your recording device. The ECMT6 runs off of Sony's CR2025 battery (not included), which has a life of approximately 100 hours.

A frequency response of 50 to 12,000 Hz combines with a 70dB dynamic range to capture all the important elements of speech. The microphone unhooks from the included clip to accommodate other recording methods, while the oxygen-free copper litz cord has minimal signal loss or added noise. The ECMT6 has an output impedance of 1.6 kOhms +/- 30% (unbalanced) and a maximum input level of approximately 94 dB. The ECMT6 also comes backed with a 90-day parts and labor warranty.

Be heard by everyone without holding a mic. This tie-tac lavaliere microphone clips to collar or pocket for unobtrusive hands-free amplification and recording. It picks up sound from all directions, making it perfect for business meetings and lectures.

It works!4
I use this to record chorus reharsals so I can listen to the recordings later and sing along. It works surpisingly well--and yields a sound ten times better than without a microphone at all. I just wish its cord were a little longer so I could put the cassette recorder on the floor instead of in my lap.

Sony ECM-T6 is GREAT for the price!5
Understandably, the other reviews express their disappointment in the fact that the mic does not come with a battery - so you'll be needing a CR-2032 battery along with purchasing this...

NONETHELESS: The value is unbeatable. I used the mic extensively with Griffin's iTalk & my iPod to record motivational lectures, and the sound quality was significantly improved vs. not having used a mic with the iTalk. That said, this comes with a high recommendation, if you can deal with having to buy a battery once every couple of years. Sony definitely lives up to its reputation with this product.

All I get is noise1
Unfortunately, at least for me, this mic performed poorly - had to return it. The only way to get a clear recording is to have it sit PERFECTLY STILL. If you so much as touch it or move it, you get massive interference that drowns out (in my case) the voices you're trying to record. Tried it in several orientations - clipped to my shirt, clipped in a pocket, etc. None worked. To be avoided.
